About Ska Music

Ska music originated in jamaica during the late 1950s and developed from rocksteady and reggae. The genre combined the caribbean mento and calypso with american jazz and rhythm and blues (rnb). Commonly, the history of ska is divided into three periods of time: the 1st wave being the original jamaican scene of the 1960s, the 2nd wave being the english 2 tone ska revival of the 1970s, and finally the 3rd wave revival of the 1980s and 1990s which became popular in the united states and blended ska with punk rock. Ska music is defined by its walking bassline which is emphasised with rhythms on the upbeat.
